Aoudad sheep were introduced to West Texas in the mid-20th century as an exotic game species, well suited for the region’s rugged mountains and desert terrain. Native to North Africa, they quickly adapted to the harsh climate, steep rock faces, and scarce water sources of the Trans-Pecos. Today, aoudad thrive across West Texas, known for their resilience, challenging hunts, and ability to flourish in some of the toughest country the state has to offer.
